Principal Data Scientist
Zhou (pronounced as Joe) joined SignalFire in 2018, where he focuses on developing SignalFire’s algorithm to help the firm find the best start-ups and entrepreneurs to invest.
Prior to SignalFire, Zhou worked at Stitch Fix as a data scientist from 2014 to 2017. He led the efforts to improve the fit experience for Stitch Fix clients. Working as part of the merchandise algorithm team, he developed algorithms to help the merchandise team design customized clothes to better fit clients with different body shapes and body attributes. Notably, a patent was filed based on his work. He also contributed his efforts toward the launch of Stitch Fix’s men’s business line and Stitch Fix’s exclusive brands.
Before Stitch Fix, Zhou spent four years at Google, where he had multiple roles across different functions from Sales Ops, Ads Products, and Google Play. He holds several patents on Google’s Adwords products related to geo bidding, retargeting optimization, and mobile targeting. While at Google Play, he developed the first version of Play’s customer lifetime value prediction system and was later adopted and scaled by the engineering team to Play’s global users in over 100 countries. His proudest moment at Google, though, was his winning of Google’s internal 3×3 basketball champion title in 2012.
Zhou holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Tsinghua University in China, and an M.S. in Statistics from Stanford University. He used to play a lot of basketball, some piano and go (the board game), but he is now a bit overwhelmed by his two young kids. Zhou also loves Chinese history, and his favorite Chinese history book is the Records of Grand Historian, a monumental history book written by the Chinese historian Qian Sima in 1st century B.C.
