Stephen is a Partner at SignalFire, focused on building new products and capital solutions. He joined the firm in 2015 as its first Associate, and as Partner & Head of Operations, he built and managed the back office (including finance, operations, legal, and fundraising) while leading investments in fintech, SaaS, and AI.
An entrepreneur at heart, Stephen was the co-founder & CEO of Tome, an AI-driven legal services company designed to solve pain points he experienced while closing 650+ investments at SignalFire. He led the company through its acquisition by AngelList, where it now powers insights across the world’s largest early-stage investment platform.
Before SignalFire, Stephen was the COO at a nonprofit financial services firm, where he helped build the student accelerator StartX and co-founded Cardinal Fund, the country’s largest student endowment management program. He began his career at Access Genetics, implementing AI systems to prevent hospital-based epidemics.
Stephen holds a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science (AI) from Stanford University, graduating with the Outstanding Achievement Award and the James W. Lyons Award for Service. He is the namesake of minor planet 25483 Trusheim, and was named Forbes "30 Under 30" for his work at SignalFire.
Outside of SignalFire, Stephen is the Commissioner of the 2035 Worlds’ Fair, San Francisco, a global effort to host the kind of World’s Fair that we only read about in history textbooks. He has previously served on the Federal Reserve Task Force on Faster Payments, the Federal Reserve Task Force on Secure Payments, and numerous nonprofit boards. Outside of work, he enjoys diving the world’s oceans, flying the world’s skies, and playing grand strategy games.
