Modern AI operates on a paradox: we understand the mathematical building blocks of neural networks, but the complex functions they learn remain an opaque black box. As models scale, they trigger unpredictable emergent properties. While empirical data proves that scaling reliably improves performance, the industry remains deeply divided on whether continuing this path will result in a hard plateau or entirely new capabilities.
